100% grade a mulberry silk hankies, also known as mawatas or bombyx silk, hand dyed by me. Silk hankies are created by pulling a thread from the mulberry silk cocoon, degumming that silk and stretching it over a 10 X 10 inch frame in layers. You can pull these layers apart and either use them in felting and mixed media projects, stretch out to a thin piece and spin into yarn (or blend with other fibers into yarn) or even knit and crochet that thin stretched piece as-is! This is an amazingly fun way to work with luxury silk fiber.
These silk hankies are approximately 1/2 ounce in weight and have been dyed by me with professional dyes in colors of autumn, from a rich red/orange to a deep forest green. It has such luster and sheen that's hard to capture in photographs.
You will want to use hand scrub before working with the silk hankies as any rough patch can get caught on the little threads of silk. Some suggest wearing thin rubber or mylar gloves, but I love just using a spoonful of sugar and a glob of olive oil, scrubbing my hands then rinsing before working with silk.
